TRAINING WITH PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT
An alternative to a qualification
A qualification is not always suitable or required and it of course involves more time and therefore more cost.
This training with practical assignment option can be very useful where the SQA L&D11 option may not be appropriate but you or your organisation want to achieve some form of certification.
This option, allows your trainers to receive the training they need to work as internal verifiers but instead of a full qualification, they complete a practical assignment in the workplace.
This provides a very useful feedback loop for people who are new to the internal verification role and it helps us to identify where they are meeting the requirements of this role as well as any ongoing development requirements.
Who is this option suitable for?
The training with practical assignment option is suitable for people who internally verify the quality of workplace assessment within a competency based assessment system. They are often called internal verifiers or it might be that they have internal verification as part of their role.
Focusing on the training
Firstly, for your internal verifiers to succeed, we believe that your internal verifiers must be trained on your verification process.
So we recommend that we build your quality processes and paperwork into the training. This means that the verifiers will leave the training with a better understanding of what to do back in their workplace.
Secondly, internal verifiers usually have two responsibilities: supporting assessors and carrying out the process of internal verification (or auditing the assessments).
We address both of these aspects during the training and completion of the knowledge assignment.
Your internal verification process
We want your internal verifiers to leave the training knowing how to verify and just as importantly, knowing how to verify using your internal verification process. Therefore, the internal verifiers will be encouraged to refer back to the verification process used within your organisation.
If you do not have an internal verification process already in place and you would like to implement one, we can provide guidance on best practise or if you would like more help in the development of the process, then we can also help. We look at this in more detail at Competency Management Systems/Developing internal verification services.
Practical Assessment
Following completion of the training, we provide a practical assignment for verifiers to complete when they return to their place of work.
The assignment is tailored to suit your own organisation’s set-up but typically each individual will be asked to complete a range of internal verification activities.
Polaris Learning then issues each internal verifier with a Certificate of Competence.
Training and knowledge assignment pre-requisites
There are no pre-requisites for this option.
However, we recommend that the internal verifiers have some knowledge of your internal verification process and are able to refer back to the process. This is particularly important when it comes to the practical assignment.
TRAINING WORKSHOP
Focusing on the workshop approach, this training would generally be carried out in a two day workshop.
In this workshop we cover:
- Assessment Refresher
- Introduction to Internal Verification
- Planning Sampling Activities
- Monitoring Assessment Practice
- External QA Requirements
- Case Study
Once your verifiers complete the training workshops, they are then required to work through the rest of the qualification back at their workplace. Your verifiers are supported throughout by a Polaris Learning consultant.
On successful completion of the qualification an SQA certificate is awarded.
ONLINE LEARNING
This involves the provision of an online training process which includes the completion of formal knowledge assignments. This would typically take one day to complete.
The online modules are:
- Module 1: Assessment Refresher
- Module 2: Introduction to Internal Verification
- Module 3: Planning Sampling Activities
- Module 4: Monitoring Assessment Practice
- Module 5: External QA Requirements
- Module 6: Case Study
Following completion of the online modules, the learner completes the necessary work to generate the evidence required by the qualification back in their workplace. This includes the completion of two candidate reports and an SQA L&D11 Knowledge Assignment.
We allocate each verifier with a Polaris Learning consultant who works closely with the learner. We build in a series of live webinars or on demand webinars to support the learning process. Client reporting is built in as standard so you can keep track of progress.
The duration of the programme can be organised to suit your requirements and we can facilitate the completion of this over a short or longer period of time.
BLENDED LEARNING
We can also offer a combination of face to face, online and webinar support and this can be tailored to meet your requirements.
