Assessor training is one of the most critical activities in implementing your competence assurance system.

We believe that your assessors need to be trained on your assessment process if you want them to be able to apply this effectively back in the workplace.

At Polaris Learning, we offer four main training options relating to online assessor training and certification.

SQA Qualification – L&D9D or L&D9DI

These are the current national standards for assessment. This option can add credibility to your set-up and also set a quality standard for those conducting assessment.

The main difference between the qualifications is that the L&D9DI requires the assessor to provide evidence of using both Direct and Indirect methods of assessment.

If your system does not use Indirect Methods of assessment, then L&D9D may be the more realistic option.

Training only

Training only can be the best option for some organisations. The main limitations with this option are that firstly, we are not able to check each assessor’s understanding and knowledge beyond what we can see through the training.

Secondly, the assessors are not supported as they transfer their knowledge back to the workplace in their role as assessors.

Training with Knowledge Assignment

The knowledge assignment enables you to check the assessors have understood the main principles of assessment. This option enables us to check each assessor’s understanding of the key elements of the training.

Training with Practical Assignment – Certificate of Competence

This option can be very useful where the assessor qualification options (SQA L&D9D and SQA L&D9DI) may not be appropriate but your organisation wants to achieve some form of certification for your assessors.

In addition to proving certification, this option also provides a very useful feedback loop for people who are new to the assessor role and will help to identify where they are meeting the requirements of this role as well as any ongoing development requirements.
