Healthy Working Lives!
One of our colleagues was diagnosed with Ceoliac Disease and suggested this was something we could look at as part of Healthy Working Lives (it obviously had a big impact on him and food choices, especially when travelling). We thought this was a really good suggestion and came up with idea of a gluten free lunch. Ahead of lunch we provided everyone with information on Ceoliac disease and we also found an online company which has developed a gluten free recipe book and mail order gluten free cakes (we had some of these as well on the day and they were delicious!)
On Monday the 6th of November we held a gluten free lunch for our employees at Lochter Activity Centre to raise awareness for Ceoliac Disease.
Coeliac disease is when the immune system reacts to gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley and rye. When someone with coeliac disease eats gluten, their immune system reacts by damaging the lining of the small intestine.
We ate a selection of gluten free sandwiches and gluten free soup, which everyone seemed to enjoy judging by the empty plates! Having had previous staff lunches and events at Lochter, it was nice to see that eating gluten free can be just as delicious as eaten foods with gluten.
